During the great Bundesliga bribery scandal of 1971, no club in the corruption swamp of manipulated matches actually accepted more money than the Berliners. There was talk of 240,000 marks for a single match, a 1:0 defeat to Arminia Bielefeld. Fifteen players were banned, some for life, and Hertha’s team fell apart.
